Oil Industry Confronts U.S. Drought

Aug 1, 2012 12:50:40 PM

Good morning!

I’m writing this on the plane back from Salt Lake, listening to Al DiMeola’s Elegant Gypsy Suite, brilliant fusion jazz from 1977.

Patent Progress

Spent the day in strategic meetings with our patent firm, the dynamic Kirton & McConkie. K&M is a smaller, well-established and fast-growing firm. They are quick on the uptake and they give us lots of special attention.

Went there with Alex Leshnick, our able Director of Operations. A patent agent in his own right, Alex manages the K&M relationship.

I came away very happy with our progress and direction.

Denver Conference Report

Bill Charneski attended a vital industry conference in Denver last week, “Water Management For Shale Plays”.

He reports:

It was obvious from the many discussions at the conference that most service companies and producers are still trying to figure out what to do with frack water and other kinds of produced water.

Trucking the water offsite and dumping it in a disposal well is becoming less and less attractive.

In his keynote, Anadarko Petroleum's Jim Raney called water treatment for reuse essential.

He defined the ideal treatment system:

-      compact footprint,

-      high continuous throughput,

-      minimal energy use,

-      able to remove oil, grease and organic contaminants.

That happens to be a perfect description of OriginOil’s Solids Out of Solution™ system!

Farmers Against Oilmen

CNNMoney reports that  with over 60% of the nation in some form of drought, fracking producers are struggling to find enough water.

For instance,

...officials in two Pennsylvania counties have stopped issuing permits for oil companies to draw water from rivers, forcing them to go further afield to obtain the crucial resource.

The drought will ease eventually. But water problems, trucking costs, and environmental pressures are driving this major trend toward re-use of water at the well.

Perfect timing for us.

Have a great week!
