Fifth Year in the Biofuels Hot 50!

Oct 31, 2012 2:42:37 PM

Good morning!

Our sympathies are with our East Coast friends who may be dealing with Sandy's aftermath.

Another Year in the Hot 50!

For the fifth year in a row, the industry's leading daily has named us one of the top 50 biofuels companies in the world!

Click here for the rankings... We came in at #41, one of nine algae companies listed (two more than last year).

Unlike last year, I decided not to harass you every week about the poll, and still we made it in the top 50! Many thanks to the international selectors and the subscribers and especially you.

How to show off the Algae Appliance™ anywhere

For a long time, we’ve wanted to demonstrate at conferences, but it’s difficult to do (since you need hundreds of gallons of watery algae).

We solved it by going virtual!

For a National Algae Association workshop in Houston, we hooked up dual webcams and demonstrated the Algae Appliance remotely.

It was crude, but it worked (check out the photos from the shoot). Look at the group shot at the end!

Check MoneyTV every Friday

In last week's MoneyTV clip, Algae GM Jose Sanchez and Operations Director Alex Leshnick tell us all about the webcam algae demo experience.

MoneyTV is where we report weekly on what's going on, so remember to check our home page by the weekend!

It's available on our home page by noon Friday, Pacific time.

Here's an archive of our MoneyTV interviews so far this quarter.

Quadruple values for algae based biofuels?

Making fuels from crops has a bad name. It distorts food markets and there may actually be no climate change benefit at all!

Now, the European Union is planning to eliminate food-crop subsidies by 2020, and limit crop-based biofuels to 5 percent of EU transportation fuels. (Story here.)

And get this: algae based biofuels will get quadruple credits toward EU biofuels and greenhouse gas targets!

As Biofuels Digest editor Jim Lane put it, "Long-term, algae looms as a major beneficiary."

That's great news for our French urban algae venture, Ennesys, we well as for the rest of the emerging European algae industry!

Oh and by the way, Ennesys is getting ready to unveil its demo system just outside of Paris... stay tuned!

Enjoy the rest of your week.
