"When will I see algae gasoline in my gas tank?"

Good morning!

Finally, snows are falling in the West. About time! Maybe I'll get to float in powder on my ultra-wide K2 Pontoons yet...

"When will I see algae gasoline in my gas tank?"

I get that question all the time.

It's a really compelling vision, that algae producers could really make crude oil from algae themselves.

So it's no wonder we saw over a hundred worldwide press mentions this week, including a radio piece on The California Report, our own LA Business Journal, United Press International (UPI), and many trade magazines including the Biofuels Digest...

You know there's much more in the works...

OriginOil to Host National Algae Association

Next Monday the 30th, the NAA will hold a one-day workshop at the University of Southern California.

Our own Paul Reep will speak on how algae producers can make crude oil themselves.

Then in the afternoon, attendees will visit our facilities nearby, to see some of what we're up to in the lab...

Algae and the Future of Transportation

Check out the cover of Algae Industry Magazine this week, where I interview our partner Larry Sirmans, who has sketched out the future for fuels using algae.

The idea is to blend algae with other, much cheaper ingredients such as municipal and forestry waste. The algae provides an energy boost and its petrochemical profile.

And the blend becomes an affordable alternative to petroleum.

It's an elegant solution that the U.S. Departments of Defense, Energy and Agriculture endorse as the way forward for transportation fuels.

Read the interview here.

Speaking of which...

Saturday, I was privileged to share a podium on The Future of Transportation with film-maker Chris Paine (Revenge of the Electric Car)... Photos here.

And today at 3:20pm, I will be on a panel at VX2012, the VerdeXchange Market Makers Conference, being held at the downtown LA Marriott.

We'll be discussing "Next Generation Transportation Fuels and Technologies".

If I don't see you there, have a great week!
