Good morning! I’m back from a tour that took me to Washington DC, Paris, Brussels, London and New York. It’ll be good to be back in the office this morning. You already know about the award we received in Washington. Today I’ll tell you how it went in London just a few days later. European Algae Biomass 2011, London Click here to flip through our presentation. (HINT: for full screen reading, press Control-L.) In this brand-new slide show, I reviewed the many extraction methods, how we do it (two major steps in one), and how “biocrude” from whole algae can create products identical to petroleum — especially chemicals, which are much more profitable than fuel and a very large market indeed. Food or Fuel? Note to planners: using nutrients from waste water and CO2 from power plants could make it hard to produce food-grade algae. Obviously, you have to take great care to have ‘clean’ nutrients. If your plan is to get paid for reducing industrial waste with algae, then you’re likely looking at making fuel and chemicals the simplest possible way. We can help. Algae Oil Services? In the oil and gas industry, companies that help get oil out of the ground are in the oilfield services business. Giants in this field include Schlumberger (SLB), Halliburton (HAL) and Baker Hughes (BHI). You could say that our company “gets the oil out of the water” for algae producers. So we are an early player in the global algae oil services business. We won’t be the last in this new sector, but we’re happy to count ourselves among the first. Enjoy the rest of your week!
