How’s your Friday?

Take a moment to watch today’s MoneyTV interview for a look at our own CTO, Brian Goodall PhD… He shares his reasons for being in the algae business and OriginOil itself.

Dr. Goodall believes the midstream of the algae process is “…the bottleneck towards future commercialization, that’s the area where I want to bring my expertise and efforts to bear.”

And Dr. Brian is doing a fine job indeed.

Bury CO2, Leak CO2

On the show, I reported on CO2 leaking out of the ground at a massive burial project, making explosive sounds, contaminating soil and water, asphyxiating small animals, and frightening a farming couple into abandoning their home!

Apparently, some 18 million tons of CO2 have been pumped below ground at the Weyburn carbon storage project in Saskatchewan, Canada, in part to demonstrate that CO2 can be safely buried. Sadly, it isn’t working very well.

That’s not the only case. In Sleipner, off the coast of Norway, seismic mapping studies have been unable to locate all the CO2 that been buried there since 1996. No one is able to say for sure whether it has leaked or not.

(More on Weyburn and Sleipner at OpEdNews)

This makes bio-carbon capture and storage (Bio-CCS) the only viable solution. Not only do you absorb the CO2, but the resulting algae crop creates a beneficial cycle of fuel and products.

And our partner in Australia, MBD Energy, is one of the world’s most aggressive players in this exciting new space.

Cyclone Yasi – Everything is OK!

Speaking of MBD…

Yasi, which came to land as a Category 5 cyclone, created “Minor damage at best. Nothing mission critical,” at the JCU research facility, reports MBD Energy’s Larry Sirmans.

Power and water are out in the general area, which affects staffing, but at worst MBD are talking about a ten-day interruption.

Well done to Larry and the entire MBD crew for “ace” preparations!

Have a great weekend.
