Good morning!

We’re very proud of our French team, who just won an international contest in Budapest! Read on.

Ennesys Wins European Venture Competition

Our French joint venture, Ennesys, won first prize in the first annual Venture Competition at the Budapest Innovation Festival!

Ennesys beat eleven other companies, each selected by the partner network of Climate-KIC (Knowledge & Innovation Community), an initiative of the European Institute of Technology (EIT).

Here’s a photo of Climate-KIC CEO Professor Mary Ritter of The Imperial College of London, awarding the prize (worth about $20,000) to Ennesys CEO Pierre Tauzinat.

Ennesys is working with top builders like Global 500 multinational Bouygues Construction to use algae in large-scale building projects, as called for by France’s RT 2020 sustainable energy law. (more)

Congratulations to the team!

Survey: Overwhelming Support for Renewable Energy

Recently, 98% of British Science Festival attendees said it was important that some of our energy should come from renewable sources.

90% said they were concerned about fuel shortages, and 86% were willing to modify their behavior to save energy.

I see this in my daily email traffic: people are concerned about our energy future and want to do something about it.

Algae: the Sustainable Biofuel

I see that the importance of advanced biofuels, including algae, was discussed at the recent Clinton Global Initiative.

Meanwhile, biofuels from crops and forestry came in for intense criticism from the European Environment Agency Scientific Committee.

Algae is indeed growing in importance as the sustainable biofuel.

Have a great week!
