Fracking Banned in LA?

Mar 12, 2014 2:29:20 PM

Good morning!

Those Vertical Farms in East Asia

It's always good to see equipment going out the door. Here the team is shipping demo equipment for urban vertical farms in Japan, Korea and China!!

That's the million-dollar licensing deal we announced back in January. The team has this nicely on track...!

(On the left, Operations Manager Andrew Davies is applying the stencil while Javier Torres assists. And Jean-Louis Kindler, our new Chief Commercial Officer, is giving the big push on the right.)

Fracking under attack in California

As fracking regulation bill Senate Bill 4 makes its way through the review process, opposition to fracking in this state is mounting.

Last week on the Big Biz Show I  noted the danger of a citizen proposition, California's dreaded way of stopping things in their tracks. But that won't happen until 2016 at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved a ban on fracking.

And Santa Barbara area residents recently awakened to the news that at least 12 offshore rigs are already fracking, with federal permits to dump more than nine billion gallons of fracking wastewater into California's ocean waters each year!

That, too, is crystallizing opposition.

Smart oil operators are already planning to recycle water aggressively NOW.

This will help neutralize attacks, and as a bonus,

  • They can recover more petroleum that way (and generate more revenues).
  • They can cut down on the hundreds of truck trips that will pollute our communities and stress our highways (and save money).
  • They can reduce water usage (and save money).

We've got the figures to prove it, and the industry is listening — both in California and in Texas, where Bill Charneski has been taking nonstop meetings.

Here's Bill's industry presentation with those figures that show extensive cost savings. Those have more impact even than regulation, because margins can be tight in the oil and gas industry.

Showcase update

Our big California frack water cleanup showcase is fast approaching!

We're working closely with elected officials to get a date that works for all of them. It's a juggle, but we are getting closer to a final date every day...

I'll keep you updated as we come closer. A limited number of guests will be welcome, and I will publish a link to sign up.

Exciting times!

Enjoy the rest of your week.
