FLASH! OriginOil on Al Jazeera

Nov 20, 2014 1:40:23 PM

Good morning!

OriginOil in 250 million homes

This Saturday, worldwide, Al Jazeera America will air the latest episode in its TechKnow series, "Cleaning up the fracking mess".

For this show, Al Jazeera spent several hours at OriginOil headquarters, discussing how we help clean up very large quantities of contaminated water, efficiently and without using chemicals.

Geeks on TV

Al Jazeera actually did something new for its TechKnow series: instead of hiring reporters and trying to tech them technology, they hired technologists and trained them as reporters!

So, our reporter, Crystal Dilworth (pictured here), recently defended her PhD in molecular neuroscience at CalTech!

In the show, we demonstrate how the process works, and how we can make a difference.

Check out the trailer for the show — exciting stuff...

(You can also read Producer Stephanie Becker's preview.)

If you have Al Jazeera in your area, here are the air dates:

  • Original air time: Saturdays 7:30PM ET / 4:30PM PT
  • Repeats: Saturday 10:30PM ET / 7:30PM PT + Sunday 2:30AM ET / Saturday 11:30PM PT

Now, while Al Jazeera America doesn't yet have huge presence in the USA, it reaches 250 million homes worldwide.

That means huge penetration for our story in places like Asia and the Middle East, where we've learned demand is high and adoption rapid.

So this show is perfect for our fastest-growing markets!

Frack water treatment to TRIPLE by 2020

Question: what does the oil industry primarily produce: water or oil?

The answer may surprise you!

“The oil industry is effectively a water industry which delivers oil as a byproduct. In the North American onshore oil industry, on average nearly eight barrels of water are brought to the surface for every barrel of oil.”

Global Water Intelligence - Water’s growing role in oil and gas

So you can imagine that the oil and gas industry really cares about its water costs.

And why the latest study forecasts that frack water treatment will TRIPLE between now and 2020!

One big reason: the oil industry can save huge money doing so.

Savings of up to $1.40 per barrel!

And they produce half a billion barrels of contaminated waste every year in the USA alone.

The result: the percentage of water treated and reuse will skyrocket from 14 percent now, to 27 percent by 2020.

By any measure, that is phenomenal growth.

I hope that gives you an idea how fast we are moving internally to satisfy demands for our cool technology.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
