Commercial success makes for a crazy schedule

Apr 10, 2013 12:55:17 PM

Good morning!

Jose Sanchez is the General Manager of our Algae Division. A recognized expert in the commercialization of algae, he helped Mexican lawmakers establish the country’s biofuel industry.

Jose's crazy travel schedule

Jose Sanchez is also a very busy man. The intense commercial interest in our Algae Appliance™ has him shuttling the globe like Henry A. Kissinger.

For starters, you can catch him this weekend at the National Algae Association's Algae Farming Workshop at the Woodlands in Houston.

He'll be presenting on something that is creating even more excitement than the harvesting story, if you can believe it.

Let me tell you what happened last month.

The jar that made a sale

Last month in Singapore, my brother Nicholas (our co-founder and chief inventor) showed up at a meeting with a major prospective customer.

He brought with him a small jar of month-old algae. The jar was passed around the table. And right then, he sold an Algae Appliance Model 4.

How did a month-old jar of algae paste sell an Algae Appliance? Simple: THE ALGAE DIDN'T SMELL!

That's a big deal, because when you concentrate algae, it starts to smell like rotten fish in just a few hours. But not ours!

Keeping algae healthy algae while it is growing, and after it's harvested? Only OriginOil can do that. It's all in this video.

What Nicholas will bring next

Now at the end of May, when Jose goes to install that system in Singapore, Nicholas will come back with him. This time, he plans to bring our aquaculture prototype. Do you think he'll make a sale?

In this photo published today on our Facebook site, he showed us the parts to the prototype he and our Operations Manager, Andrew Davies, are building.

Soon the huge fish farming industry in Southeast Asia will have a way to remove ammonia without chemicals, and destroy bacteria just the same way we do it for algae.

Rapid multi-industry deployment

You see, we don't have to invent a whole new technology each time. We just take the same basic technology and engineer it for the new application.

That's why we know we have a home run for the world's aquaculture industry, which is worth more than $100 billion per year. But they have a terrible problem with ammonia from urination, and from bacteria and viral invasions.

Asia is really the best place to launch our commercial efforts. According to Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO),

Asia accounted for 89 percent of world aquaculture production by volume in 2010, and this was dominated by the contribution of China, which accounted for more than 60 percent of global aquaculture production volume in 2010.

Other major producers in Asia are India, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines and Japan.

It's a very good thing indeed that our Chief Inventor has taken a personal interest in the Asian market...

I'm traveling too!

Next Tuesday the 16th, I'm honored to speak on two panels at the one-day "Pathways to 100% Renewable Energy" Conference in San Francisco, organized by the prestigious Renewables 100 Policy Institute.

Please join me! Here's the signup page.

These are the panels I'm serving on:

1:45PM – 2:50PM Panel 3:
Integrating 100% Renewable Energy Into the Transportation Sector

2:50PM – 3:55PM Panel 4:
Zero Energy Buildings: Samples and Best Practices from Around the World

Speaking of Zero Energy Buildings, there's great news on the way from Ennesys, our Paris urban algae joint venture! But I'm out of room for today.

Enjoy the rest of the week!
