Spain’s Depuporc unveiled this integrated manure treatment system using OriginClear technology. The demonstration system processes 30 metric tons per day, with client-validated reduction of contaminants.
In 2016, OriginClear announced that it successfully developed and proved its proprietary Advanced Oxidation process, AOx, to complement its breakthrough water cleanup system, Electro Water Separation™, or EWS.
University laboratory tests have shown that EWS, combined with Advanced Oxidation (EWS:AOx™), can now also address dissolved contaminants, which are otherwise difficult to remove without chemicals such as chlorine.
Potable or near-potable water is typically free of particulates and oils.
In such applications, EWS is not needed, and operators can deploy AOx by itself, as a next-generation AOP.
In 2017, OriginClear showed that AOx could be used on a standalone basis to treat potable and near-potable waters for micro-contaminants.
In laboratory research, AOx has been shown to be extremely effective in treating micro-contaminants in potable or near-potable water.
OriginClear is now scaling up to field pilot and demonstration, while testing continues on a series of contaminants and water samples.
Advanced Oxidation Processes use strong oxidizing agents to reduce pollutants and sanitize water.
As outlined in an industry article, existing methods include injection, catalysis or irradiation, separately or in combination, under mild temperature and pressure conditions.
Here’s how AOx compares with the existing technologies:
- Injected AOP has a high operating cost, due to the need to continuously input expensive chemical reagents proportional to the quantity of contaminants to be removed; and the related labor.
OriginClear’s proprietary AOx™ is an emerging, next-generation AOP. It features two methods, both catalytic, for reducing pollutants through oxidation. These methods may be used singly or in combination, according to the application.
The oxidizing agents include Oxygen (O), Chlorine (Cl), Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) and Ozone (O3).
Hydroxyl Radical (OH•) is the most powerful oxidizing agent available, produced by the reaction of Hydrogen Peroxide and Ozone.
Direct and Indirect Oxidation
The first method is direct, by exchange of electrons between the anode and the pollutants.
The second is indirect, by generating strong reactive oxygen species (ROS) — most especially OH• — on the anode surface, i.e. in-situ generation of oxidizing species.
OriginClear’s patent-pending Advanced Oxidation Process, AOx™, removes minute contaminants that remain in potable water after treatment.
For our purposes, potable water is any water which has no suspended solids or oils, and has been treated with filtration and other final-stage methods. It may include:
- Domestic drinking water (tap water)
- Bottled waters
- Agricultural irrigation water
- Water in hot tubs and pools.
We call these contaminants “microtoxins”, because, even in low doses, many have the potential to affect the immune and endocrine systems in humans and animals.
