Wire Service Covers Company’s Biofeedback Development, Comments on Exxon Mobil for Algae

Los Angeles, CA – July 20, 2009 – OriginOil, Inc. (OOIL), the developer of a breakthrough technology to transform algae, the most promising source of renewable oil, into a true competitor to petroleum, announced that global wire service United Press International (UPI) carried OriginOil’s announcement of its Dynamic Control System, along with the company’s comments on Exxon Mobil’s recent multi-billion dollar commitment to algae technology. <LINK>

In the article, UPI stated that OriginOil “has designed a dynamic control system to control the type and amount of lighting used as algae grows to maturity in order to improve energy efficiency and growth rates.” It also spotlighted the comment by Dr Vikram Pattarkine, CTO, on the company’s tests of LED light designs: “We expect this study to yield a wealth of data about what works best in algae lighting.”

The wire service additionally discussed Exxon Mobil’s recent partnership with Synthetic Genomics “to genetically engineer new strains of algae for biofuels,” which Exxon Mobil has stated could reach into the billions of dollars. In the article, OriginOil CEO Riggs Eckelberry positioned his company as supportive of algae strains efforts: “Our own focus is on building the industrial platform for producing any type of algae and we welcome large-scale research into new strains.”

Leading trade journal Oil & Gas Journal also covered the algae alternative in its weekly July 13 issue, saying that “[OriginOil] is sidestepping hydrocarbons in its development of a renewable form of energy from an unlikely biological source.” Oil & Gas Journal is a subscription-only journal.

In separate news, CEO Eckelberry also spoke with the CEO Radio Network (www.ceoradionetwork.com) and discussed OriginOil’s forward strides in achieving the aim of commercializing algae as fuel in the next several years instead of decades as is popularly expected. The company is achieving its aims on a minimal operating budget and staying true to its mission as a technology provider.

“Unlike most algae biofuel companies that intend to produce and market fuel as an end product, OriginOil is focused on developing the critical algae-to-oil technology needed by algae producers. We intend to license our technology to companies worldwide and help them develop and manage profitable algae sites. Our model is about sharing information and licensing our technology to as many companies as possible,” Eckelberry remarked.
