OriginOil's Electro Water Separation™ Selected as AlgEternal Technologies’ Preferred Algae Harvesting Technology

Algae growers and suppliers of associated equipment are increasingly making OriginOil’s EWS their harvester of choice

Los Angeles, California and Weimar, Texas – July 2, 2013 – OriginOil, Inc. (OTC/QB: OOIL), developer of Electro Water Separation™ (EWS), the high-speed, chemical-free way to clean up very large quantities of water used by the oil & gas, algae and other water-intensive industries, announced today that AlgEternal Technologies, LLC, will incorporate OriginOil’s technology to harvest algae as a key component of the company’s proprietary algal  production system. AlgEternal Technologies has developed a highly efficient vertical growth, algal culture photo bioreactor (PBR) technology for maximized commercial production of high-quality algae for the wholesale commercial algae production market worldwide.

"OriginOil has hit an absolute bull’s eye with their new EWS-powered Algae Appliance™,” said Hugh Morris, COO and founder of AlgEternal. “Simply put, OriginOil provides reliable, efficient, clean, scalable, harvesting technology. AlgEternal took the bottleneck out of high volume algae growth with the capability to send 13,000 gallons of green water a minute and 192,000 gallons per acre to the OriginOil harvester with no power usage,” Morris continued.

He continued, “OriginOil took the bottleneck out of separation! This technology is a must-have.”

AlgEternal’s patent pending, closed loop, Vertical Growth Module (VGM™), has undergone seven years of rigorous research and development improvements. The current system incorporates critical features including CO2 delivery protocol, maximizing the rates of CO2 capture, as well as an aggressive algal growth rate during all seasons of the year with temperature ranges from below freezing to over 100° F. Founder Morris chose OriginOil's harvester to complement these capabilities in his end-to-end algae production system designs.

Prior to selecting its preferred harvest process, AlgEternal explored all available technologies, including centrifugation and filtration, to identify a process which provided optimal production and synergy with their growth system design. AlgEternal determined that OriginOil's harvesting technology met their high standards, with the capability to provide a low-bacteria, live cell paste directly from the green water, with no pre-concentration required, at high speed, with low cost and high energy efficiency. The sanitized paste provides for a long shelf life, allowing time for shipping or utilization in downstream products such as food, feed, nutriceuticals, cosmetics or biofuels.

"This selection as the preferred harvest technology of choice, by a company that is as well researched and deeply respected as AlgEternal, is validation of the highest order for us at OriginOil,” said Marlene Stewart, OriginOil’s global sales manager.

Algal yields and production capacities in the AlgEternal system have been validated by UTEX (the Culture Collection of Algae at The University of Texas). In a continuous 12-month study in Central Texas, UTEX observed sustained algal growth in the AlgEternal vertical-tube culture system during all seasons. UTEX has also designed an agricultural fertilizer for the AlgEternal system that is as effective as laboratory-grade chemicals for vigorous algal growth, but at a small fraction of the cost.

AlgEternal also worked closely with industry partner Georg Fischer Piping Systems, a division of worldwide leader for piping transport systems, Georg Fischer, LLC, to design and produce the VGM™ systems. All systems will meet Georg Fischer’s world-class QC standards.
