OriginClear Wins A First Commercial Order For Landfill Waste Water Treatment System In Malaysia

Existing leachate treatment site will be retrofitted with Electro Water Separation with Advanced Oxidation technology (EWS:AOx™) to comply with discharge limits

Los Angeles, CA – May 9, 2017 – OriginClear Inc. (OTC/QB: OCLN), a leading provider of water treatment solutions, today announced that its Joint Venture (JV) in Malaysia, OriginClear Water Solutions (OWS), has received a commercial scale purchase order from Envirogard, a water treatment systems engineering company based near Kuala Lumpur.

The assignment is to retrofit an underperforming landfill leachate treatment system with an EWS:AOx system. Required capacity is 100 m3 (approximately 26,000 gallons) of waste water per day, to be increased to 400 m3 (more than 100,000 gallons) per day, to manage peak flows during the rainy season beginning in October.

Rainwater causes runoff from landfills which is extremely difficult to treat, as the dense debris and high contamination level quickly overload membranes and filters. This runoff is called leachate, or “black water”. Tests by OriginClear and its partners in Malaysia and China have shown that EWS:AOx effectively clarifies landfill leachate, to avoid such overloads. Scheduled for July, this is the first commercial rollout of EWS:AOx in a landfill setting.

Mr. Yoon Man Yap, Envirogard’s Managing Director, declares: “We first met OriginClear about a year ago, and immediately thought of the potential application for leachate treatment.” Mr. Yap continues, “Prior to committing to this project, we conducted extensive lab testing. The consistent results and ability to comply with discharge regulations convinced us to employ this breakthrough technology. We’re very proud to be the first to install EWS:AOx on a fully commercial operation in Malaysia.”

The EWS:AOx system will be retrofitted to an existing conventional treatment system, at a landfill operation located in Negeri Sembilan, the Malaysian state south of the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. An Envirogard team will use a few existing basins in the current system (see photos) to install EWS:AOx components. Due to the efficiency of EWS:AOx, only a fraction of the current basins’ volume is needed; and the pumping and piping system will also be reused and adapted. Significant chemical costs will also be avoided, as compared to the system in place.

“There are approximately 300 landfills in Malaysia,” said Jean-Louis “JL” Kindler, President of OriginClear Technologies, who recently inspected the site. “This means that a successful installation could lead to more business in both landfill runoff and other applications in Malaysia, China and elsewhere. We also believe that our ability to retrofit to existing basins is a competitive advantage.”

OriginClear recently entered into a research agreement on landfill leachate with Florida Atlantic University in the United States. As part of this newly established relationship, OriginClear has started the first laboratory tests on leachate originating from the Eastern United States, and will correlate these with results obtained so far from tests in East Asia.
