The Perfect Storm for Water

From: Riggs Eckelberry
Los Angeles, August 11, 2015

Good morning!

Too much water, too fast?

California is eagerly awaiting the heavy rains of a record El Niño ocean warming "event" this winter. This could lead to record rains.

CEO1But it'll come down as rain and not snow.

California relies on snowpack to carry it through its long, dry summers.

Remember that photo of the top of the Sierras back in February? There's your problem.

That's actually what it's supposed to look like in August!

To make it worse, mountainsides that have been laid bare in the drought will now flood and slide.

It's better than no rain at all, but it's just as hard to control too much as too little.

A worldwide problem

It's happening across the planet — either too much, or too little.

Water is everything.

That's why China has committed a third of a trillion dollars to water projects. For starters!

Other countries are catching up fast. It's a tsunami for water conservation, treatment and reuse.

What's driving the spending

Here's what's making this a Perfect Storm for Water:

1.Regulation. Allowable limits for many water contaminants like arsenic are being tightened, leading to a snowball effect as industries and cities play catch-up.
2.Extremes. Droughts and floods alike are driving water conservation and re-use.
3.Contamination. Places like China are dealing with decades of neglect of their waste water. Even in California, we've found out that our aquifers are polluted, too.

We got a dramatic taste of that last week, when the Animas River turned bright yellow, on its way to Lake Powell, a major source of drinking water for the entire West...

Sadly, the systems aren't in place to do much about this disaster.

Obviously, that is about to change. What will it take?

1. Breakthrough technologies, built into systems by strong manufacturers,
2. Service companies on the ground putting the systems to work.

We're working with the manufacturers right now, and you saw how we are now acquiring the service companies that will be called on to help us all survive the Perfect Storm for Water.

It's an exciting time for us, and thank you for your loyal support.

Have a great week!
